Public Service

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."

-Mahatma Gandi

My passion in community service began when I was just in the 6th grade. I attended Charles Evans Hughes Middle School in Long Beach, CA and we had a "Green Team". I had no clue what it was until I came to the first meeting. It was all about saving the environment and little did I know that public service would be right up my alley.

After 3 years of being in this club, I was able to enhance the school's atmosphere by gardening around campus, water plants, composting, and creating art out of plastic waste to promote the reduction of it on campus. A major project I worked on was reducing plastic waste with the help of the non-profit organization, Grades of Green. I created a student store that awarded students whenever they brought reusable plastic containers for lunch. To this day, I still continue my work with Grades of Green by leading a water quality and conservation campaign with students from middle schools and high schools in the South Bay area.
