Right when 2017 began, my family decided to go out to a school in one of our hometowns to feed children who lived in homes made out of waste and had no running water. I remember a young child coming up to me begging for food, but I had to have them all go in a single file line. After we had finished distributing all the food, all the children came swarming at me shouting out "Salamat!" repeatedly. "Salamat" is Tagalog for "Thank you!". This will be a day that I will never, ever forget.
